Philadelphia’s NY Cheesecake

Some of the best recipes can be found on the manufacture’s packaging.  Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese® has included a recipe for years.  Sure they have added various updates and twists to make different flavors, but the basic recipe is always the same.  (8 ounces cream cheese, 1 egg, 1/4 cup sugar (or Splenda®) and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract and you increase the cream cheese to fit your pan.  This way you can bake a cheese cake in an eight inch spring form pan, 4 inches high using 4 packages of cream cheese for a stunning look.)

Cream Cheese batter has been poured into a baked graham cracker crust.  Fill almost to the top.  There is very little rise however, it will puff up while it is cooking and deflate as it cools.  This is normal.

Phila Chz Cake 01Sorry for the smudge on the pictures, I guess my hands were a little dirty.  The cheese cake has been baked and is cooking.  How to tell if you cheese cake is done?  Look for the center to be slightly giggly like set gelatin.  It should not be liquidity.

Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 325ºF/163ºC. All ingredients should be at room temperature.
  2. In a mixing bowl, add the cream cheese and the granulated sugar. Beat together until the sugar has incorporated.
  3. Add the eggs on at a time. Beat to incorporate scraping the bowl down in between additions.
  4. Add the vanilla extract and mix until just incorporated.
  5. Pour into a 9-inch pie dish (smooth interior). Place on a baking sheet and place in a preheated 325ºF/163ºC over, Bake for 30 to 40 minutes.
  6. Remove from the oven to a cool rack. Refrigerate when cool. Chill at least 3 hours before serving.
Recipe Notes

If you desire to use a homemade graham cracker crust, follow the above instructions except pour the batter into the prepared crust.  All times remain about the same.

 

Use of artificial sweeteners - I have made this recipe using Splenda® in place of the sugar with success.  The graham cracker crust if used works best with sugar.

 

Serving Suggestions - top with fresh fruits, pie fillings, or various syrups.
