Graham Cracker Pie Crust

Love them or hate them graham cracker crust are the standard for many cheesecakes.  Sure you can purchase them at the grocery store and save the trouble of making it, but homemade means you know what is in it and how fresh it is.  Besides, who does not love playing in the ‘sand’?

Graham cracker crumbs, sugar and butter mixed together.  The finished mixture should resemble wet sand and should clump when you squeeze some in your hand.

Graham Crust 01Once you have clumpy, sandy like crumbs, press this mixture into your baking pan.  In this case a glass pie dish.

Bake the pie crust in a 350ºF/177ºC over for 10 to 15 minutes or until the crust lightly browns around the edges.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF/177ºC.
  2. Place the graham cracker crumbs, granulated sugar and the melted butter into a mixing bowl. Mix with you hands or a fork to combine. The butter should moisten the graham cracker crumbs. If you squeeze some of the mixture in your hand, it should lump together like wet sand. If it does not, add additional melted butter a tablespoon at a time until you reach the clumping stage.
  3. Pour the mixture into you 9-inch pie pan and press in place along the bottom and sides.
  4. Bake in a 350ºF/177ºC oven for 10-12 minutes or until the crust starts turning a golden browning around the edges.
  5. Remove from the oven. Your crust is ready to use.
